Week one was a jam-packed orientation for what will be an awesome summer! What I was most excited by is the mentor-ship program AAPD has facilitated. As a Finance major with a minor in Economics, it makes a perfect match that my mentor, Gary Goosman, is a Director for the Tower Initiative of the United States Business Leaders Network (USBLN). Upon graduation from Temple University next May, I plan on going into the financial services sector in the capacity of an investment banker or wealth manager, and Gary is connected to leaders in all industries. I knew networking would be a major determinant of how I would measure my success this summer, but I had no idea that we, as AAPD interns, would be introduced to so many great individuals through the program. Also, as a collective group, the AAPD interns have become a great network and I am happy to have met them all. I am excited to share this experience with them! On our final day of orientation, we were given an excellent tour of the FDR Memorial, and I'll close with a FDR quote that echoes my optimism and my view of this summer as an opportunity to seize, "The only thing to fear is fear itself." Next Tuesday I will begin my internship in Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers office and I cannot wait to start!
